September Art Show: Lindsay Behrens
September 1, 2016 @ 10:00 am - September 30, 2016 @ 10:00 pm EDT
Come see Artist Lindsay Behrens’ paintings showcased at The Buttonwood Tree! Her artwork will be on display for the month of September, with the reception taking place on September 25th.
Lindsay Behrens is greatly inspired by the beauty and uniqueness found in nature and the life sciences. While she has created from obvious beauties such as various colored dahlias, she has also found an affinity for more unusual subject matter, much of which is specifically found in the ocean. This includes the color, texture, and pattern-changing cephalopod known as the cuttlefish, as well as the tiny and adorable, yet venomous and predatory sea slug: glaucus atlanticus. She pulls her interest and excitement to create from the never-ending supply of inspiration in the world around us. Her main focus is in printmaking and painting. Her body of work currently on display includes screen-printing, woodcut, oil pastel, and acrylic painting.
Lindsay grew up in Connecticut and graduated from the University of Connecticut’s School of Fine Arts in December of 2002. She studied in a variety of mediums including printmaking, painting, sculpting, and photography, and has a current focus in silk-screening, painting, and drawing. As the art and science instructor at Green Street Arts Center in Middletown, CT she has worked with her students in a variety of mediums including recycled sculpture and block-printing in order to create 2D or 3D projects connected to and inspired by scientific themes (i.e. the weather, deep-sea life, space, etc.). She also teaches screen-printing at Farmington Valley Arts Center in Avon and will be teaching Block-Printing at West Hartford Art League to adults. She was a member of West Cove Studio and Gallery in West Haven, CT from 2008-2015, and was selected to be a member of the Connecticut Women Artists, Inc. in the fall of 2012. In addition to creating fine art for display, Lindsay also screen-prints and sells hand-pulled t-shirts with images such as cuttlefish, jellyfish, road runners, zebras and more on her online store and in pop-up markets throughout CT, RI, and MA.
