Guitarist/composer Sean Clapis has recently made his biggest statement yet with the release of The Unseen River. Best known by some for his work with the popular revivalist jazz ensemble Carte Blanche, he is also making a mark in New York and beyond in the realm of modern jazz.
Born and bred in Hartford, CT, Sean trained at the Artist’s Collective, founded by Jackie McLean, and at the storied Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts, getting the opportunity along the way to perform at the “National Festival da Juventude” on the African island nation of Cape Verde. Upon receiving a generous scholarship from the Hartford Jazz Society in 2005, Sean earned his Bachelor’s in Music at the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford, training with notable masters such as Rene McLean, Randy Johnston, Rich Goldstein, Steve Davis, Andy LaVerne, Joe Diorio and many others.
Moving to Brooklyn in 2011, Clapis began his relationship with Carte Blanche and forged many other new relationships in the jazz world. He has also performed with the Spanish rock group “Tulsa,” Alan Palmer’s progressive jazz ensemble “New Soil Ship,” the swing band “Fleur Seule” and Scott Bradlee’s “Postmodern Jukebox” among many others.
