Portrait of an Artist as Santa Claus: An Alaskan-Style Summer Holiday with Ken Waldman
June 9 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm$15
Ken Waldman combines Appalachian-style string-band music, original poetry, and mostly Alaska-set storytelling for a performance uniquely his own. He promises an evening of fun, inspiration, surprises, local musical guests, a few poems and stories, as well as special experiment or two!
His accomplishments include nine CDs of old-time Appalachian-style string-band music, including two for children. His eleven books consist of nine full-length poetry collections, a memoir about life as a touring artist, and a volume of acrostic poems for kids.
As a former college professor with an MFA in Creative Writing, he’s been a visiting writer at nearly 100 colleges and universities, a visiting artist at over 230 schools in 33 states, and has led workshops across the country, all the way from Alaska to Maine. As a performer, he’s played at the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage and Berkeley’s Freight and Salvage, among many other prominent venues. Although he occasionally performs as a soloist, he more often serves as the leader of an ever-changing troupe of nationally recognized musicians.
