NEAR and Far Storytellers (Hosted by Jim Harriman and Carolyn Stearns)
April 8, 2018 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm EDT$5
WHAT IS NEAR AND FAR?
Every second Sunday of the month, NEAR and Far Storytellers convene for an afternoon of entertaining and creative stories, sometimes serious and sometimes whimsical. The Buttonwood venue is a great backdrop for well-crafted stories and, many times, brilliant tales created on the fly. The first half of the program is an open mic opportunity with no rules or restrictions. It is an atmosphere of sharing and inclusiveness.
Linda Marchisio will follow as our headliner on April 8th. She will regale the audience with an eclectic combination of traditional tales and personal stories. Once Upon a Time is closer than you think and daily life can make us laugh and cry. Come listen to the adventures of an escape artist pet and the retelling of a famous race and a variety of other playful tales.
Linda is storyteller, library media specialist, and dance movement facilitator. She is an animated performer who frequently uses song, dance and audience participation. Her performances for adults and children include stories that remind us that liars usually get fooled, music and dance can make your heart sing, and that true life can make you laugh and cry.
Her published jive story about the creation of the U.S. Constitution, “The Constitution Jive”, and her delightful rainbow story, “The Garden Rainbow” are included in Holiday Stories All Year Round. She won the Connecticut Humanities Council 2003 Wilbur Cross Award for her role as a champion of reading as book discussion leader. Linda completed her Master’s research on Movement Assisted Storytelling as a Vehicle to Motivate Reading.
