Lisa Bastoni and Naomi Sommers

November 30 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

$15

Lisa Bastoni and Naomi Sommers are two dynamic, accomplished songwriters in the Americana/folk genre. Accompanying one another on multiple instruments, as well as honey-sweet, close-harmony singing, they will play two sets of original music, interwoven with some of the traditional songs that have inspired them.

Lisa Bastoni had a thriving singer-songwriter career going until she took a break to start a family with her husband, novelist Christopher Boucher. Now, after nearly ten years away from writing and performing, Bastoni returns to music with THE WISHING HOUR (Jan. 2017), produced by Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer Felix McTeigue (Lori McKenna/Anais Mitchell/Martin Sexton). The songs have been described as “Americana of the highest order, think along the lines of Gretchen Peters or Patty Griffin, with high quality musos to match.” (Maverick-UK)

Recorded in Nashville and produced by Jim Rooney, GENTLE AS THE SUN is Naomi Sommers’ most recent album, featuring Naomi’s trusted family and friends, and released on her Father’s American Melody label. “Naomi Sommers is a dreamer’s find…a lamp lighting the way to the most heartfelt songs I’ve heard in a long time… Deep, rich, melodic; the tunes carry you to a wonderful place and her warm voice touches parts of you long forgotten or long ignored.” Virginia MacIsaac – Rambles, a cultural magazine.

About Naomi:

Naomi Sommers grew up in a home full of music and instruments, performing since middle school with her parents and brother in the Sommers Rosenthal Family Band. Over the years she has sung and played flute, banjo, and guitar on more than 20 records released on her father Phil’s independent American Melody label, and has recorded three albums under her own name, as well as one with old-time country slow-grass duo Gray Sky Girls.

Naomi’s most recent album, “Gentle As The Sun”, was recorded in Nashville, produced by the acclaimed musician/producer Jim Rooney (John Prine, Iris Dement, Nanci Griffith, Bonnie Raitt).  Jim’s enthusiasm over Naomi’s songs and her voice prompted him to end a hiatus from the music business to make this record.  The album was engineered by David Fergusson (Johnny Cash/Rick Rubin) and features a backup band of some of Nashville’s finest musicians.  Naomi’s trusted family and friends traveled from New England to play on the record as well.  She was thrilled to present the resulting collection of songs, the culmination of years of devotion to the craft of songwriting and to the merging of traditional and contemporary styles in American music.

While living Germany for nearly a decade, Naomi toured in the Netherlands and the UK. “Gentle As the Sun” was released by Continental Records in the Netherlands, and received stellar reviews & radio airplay in the UK and Europe. Naomi’s most recent musical project is a new album, released fall 2016, with her father and brother, melding jazz (brother Daniel plays trumpet) and bluegrass (father Phil is an accomplished bluegrass musician and songwriter). The Sommers Rosenthal Family band is proud to release their first album (after recording together for many years but not as an official band), and they hope to find themselves “Down The Road” from your neighborhood, playing a concert, very soon!
