Julian Gerstin Jazz Sextet

April 7 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

$15

DESCRIPTION:
We play original, audience-friendly jazz with strong Caribbean and Balkan influences. Clarinet, trumpet, piano, bass, drums and a wide range of world percussion instruments. Our first CD, The One Who Makes You Happy, has just been recorded and will be released later this spring, and we will be performing in its support!

BIOS:
Bandleader/percussionist Julian Gerstin crafts compositions based on his experiences living in the Caribbean and working with musicians from Martinique, Cuba, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa and Brazil. Creative improvisation, surprising rhythms and heartfelt melodies combine in his music.

Clarinetist extraordinaire Anna Patton has studied in Bulgaria and Macedonia, and also leads the contradance band Elixir. Don Anderson has performed lead trumpet roles with the Latin big band Creación, the Vermont Jazz Center Big band, and others. Pianist Eugene Uman contributes the influences of Colombia as well as jazz, and is Director of the Vermont Jazz Center. Bassist Wes Brown cut his professional teeth with jazz legend Earl “Fatha” Hines and for many years has been the regular bassist in Fred Ho’s Afro-Asian Orchestra. Drummer Ben James has appeared with saxophone legend John Tchicai as well as Nels Kline and Camper van Beethoven.
