Closing Art Reception – Maria Louise

June 25 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Maria Louise

Born in South Florida and educated in Middletown, Connecticut; Maria found a calling for design at a very young age. In an attempt to weave her passions together, she embarked on the journey of her life’s work.  She sought to learn from the greatest examples of design throughout history, and instinctively was drawn to the notion of biomimicry.  Although daily inspiration is pulled most directly from nature; she has been developing technical elements of style stemming from hieroglyphics, architecture, graffiti, indigenous cultures, patina, fashion and typography.

Mediums of exploration have included: clay, graphite, charcoal, various inks, oil-based spray paints, acrylics, oil paint (both solid & liquid form), gauche, conté, and encaustic resins/wax. She works with combinations of the desired pigments on hand in that moment. Every work is an experiment. By instinct she feels what type of line or movement is needed and implements a unique ambidextrous approach.  Both her concept and techniques are glimpses into a facet of what is to come. Maria is currently in the works of designing a fashion company set to launch in 2018.

Throughout her life she has been influenced by the lives of those around her, and the works of many others including Leonardo Da Vinci, Tupac Shakur, Yves Saint Laurent, Mother Theresa, Muhammad Ali, Einstein, Frida Kahlo, XIV Dalai Llama (Tenzin Gyatso), Nefertiti, and Salvador Dali.

She has undergone – and continues to undergo – critical transformation thanks to her soul’s passion for, and love of Hip Hop.  Writing, poetry, and lyrics have always been an outlet for her, as well as singing and the art of freestyle. She feels the ability to connect with ancestors through this and cherishes it as an integral part of her human existence. In her debut solo gallery exhibition From Bud to Bloom, Maria Louise invites you to join in the experience of her selected works.
